How it started

In 2025, Alexander had a special Christmas wish: to bring joy to children bravely battling cancer.

While chatting with his mom one day, as the festive season approached, Alexander began thinking about the other children in his community facing the same challenges he was. He knew how difficult the journey could be and believed that every child deserved something special to look forward to at Christmas.

Christmas has always been a time of hope for our family, and throughout this journey, the support of our community has carried us through some of our most difficult days.

With the support of generous individuals, local businesses, schools, and the community, Alexander's Christmas Wish was born. Together, we collect gifts and vouchers for children diagnosed with cancer, bringing moments of joy and reminding them and their families that they are loved, supported, and never alone For Alexander, Christmas was about bringing happiness, peace, and hope to children and families facing incredibly difficult circumstances. No child or family should have to worry about having a warm meal on the table or gifts to share at Christmas.

Alexander showed us that even in the midst of our own battles, we can choose to make a difference.

Alexander’s Christmas Wish is a reminder that hope can be found in small acts of kindness and have the power to make a meaningful impact on someone's life.

The Goal

Our goal is to identify children in the George & Garden Route community who have been diagnosed with cancer and support them and their families during the festive season. Having experienced the emotional and financial pressures of a cancer diagnosis firsthand, Alexander and his family understand how challenging the journey can be and hope to ease the burden for others.

Our goal is to assemble Christmas hampers containing food, restaurant vouchers, clothing vouchers, and special gifts for the children, bringing comfort, joy, and hope at a time when it is needed most.

Support often pours in when a child is first diagnosed, but by Christmas much of that help has faded.

Alexander's Christmas Wish aims to change that by reminding families that they are still seen, supported, and cared for.

Making Difference

In 2025, more than R50,000 was raised through Alexander's Christmas Wish to bring joy and support to children fighting cancer.

A special part of each Christmas gift is a personalised Joy Box containing vouchers valued at approximately R3,000 – R5,000 per child. These vouchers are carefully selected based on the child's needs and location, helping provide practical support while also creating moments of joy during the festive season.

The Joy Boxes are made possible through the generosity of local businesses, sponsors, and community members who contribute vouchers or donations towards this initiative. Participating businesses have included Geronimo Spur, Debonairs Pizza George, Van Rensburg's Foods, Trail Kiosk at Ground Zero, Pick n Pay Family Store Sedgefield, Pick n Pay Family Supermarket George, Montecello Restaurant, Prince of Tarts, and Spies Speelplaas.

Alongside the Joy Box, each child receives a personalised Christmas gift inspired by their own wishes. These gifts are made possible through financial contributions and physical donations from the community and may include toys, clothing, toiletries, books, stationery, and other special items chosen especially for them.
